How to add a GIF to a video

Three steps to a GIF overlay that stays animated in the MP4

1. Add your video

Drag an MP4, MOV, WebM or GIF into the box, or click “Upload”. The browser reads the file directly, so there is nothing to wait for. Up to 1 GB.

2. Search Giphy or upload your own

The picker opens on the GIF tab and searches Giphy as you type. Drag a result onto the preview, or upload a GIF of your own. Then set its size, rotation, opacity and the moment it starts and stops.

3. Export to MP4

Every frame of the GIF is drawn into the video, so the animation becomes part of the file and the GIF itself is no longer needed. Export at the source resolution, or at 720p, 1080p or 9:16.

A GIF overlay is drawn frame by frame into the MP4. The loop plays on a phone, in a browser and inside TikTok or Reels, where a separate GIF file would not play at all.

Giphy search, or a file of your own

Search the Giphy library without leaving the page, or upload a GIF you already have. Only the search term and the GIF you pick go over the network. Your video is not part of that traffic: it is edited and encoded inside the browser.
