Three steps to a 4K or 60 fps MP4 with sound
11. Copy the YouTube link
On a phone, tap Share and then Copy link. On a computer, copy the URL from the address bar. Shorts links and live replay links work the same way.

Press "Download" and the page lists every stream YouTube has for that video, from 360p up to 2160p, with the frame rate next to each one.

Choose 1080p60 or 2160p60 if the upload has them. The audio is merged into the video before the download starts, so you get one MP4 with sound.
Past the 720p limit
Above 720p, YouTube sends the video and the audio as two separate streams. A tool that gives you a single file without merging them has to stop at 720p. This one combines the two, so you get 1080p, 1440p and 2160p with sound.
60 fps stays 60 fps
If the upload is 60 frames per second, the MP4 keeps all 60. Nothing is halved to 30 fps, and that is what keeps fast motion clean in gameplay clips and sports.
An MP4 your editor will open
Premiere, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve and iMovie all read H.264 in an MP4 without a plugin. YouTube also stores smaller VP9 and AV1 copies of the same video, but Final Cut and iMovie will not open those.
